MRI scanning requires a dedicated MRI scanner, which is different from the dedicated CT scanners used for medical imaging. An MRI scanner will have a separate table that slides out for the patient to lie on during the scan, like a hospital gurney. The patient has an IV line inserted into their arm to receive contrast material (usually iodine) during the scan. These lines are then removed after the scan has been performed.
